Police arrested a 59-year-old local man in Tai Po on the afternoon of September 8 in connection with a suspected indecent assault involving a 20-year-old student on an East Rail train. The man, surnamed Lo and reportedly working as a clerk, was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault and remained in custody while enquiries continued.
The woman reported that a male passenger touched her from behind at about 7pm on September 7, while she was travelling between Tai Po Market and Tai Wo stations. She also found white transparent liquid on her clothing. The nature and source of the liquid have not been confirmed.
The man reportedly got off when the train arrived at Tai Wo station and left the scene. The woman then sought help from MTR staff and reported the matter to police.
Police seized clothing the man was allegedly wearing at the time of the incident. Police said their initial investigation suggested that the man and the woman did not know each other, and that he had travelled alone while looking for a target. These are preliminary investigative views and have not been established by a court.
The case is being handled by the ninth team of the Tai Po district crime investigation team. The man had not been charged or convicted according to the information available, and the investigation was continuing.
