A 69-year-old man surnamed Ouyang died after he was found unconscious beneath a pedestrian footbridge near San Shan Road and the East Kowloon Corridor shortly after midnight on September 5.

A passer-by alerted police at about 12.21am. Rescuers gave the man first aid before he was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police initially believed the man had been hanging from the footbridge railing and that a rope may have broken, causing him to fall to the pavement. The death was treated as a suspected suicide, but this remained an initial assessment.

No suicide note was found at the scene, according to one report. The cause of death was pending a post-mortem examination, and the circumstances had not been officially determined.
