Airport police helped a foreign family of three recover luggage that another passenger on the same flight had mistakenly taken, after officers noticed them searching anxiously around a baggage carousel during a patrol in June. The family had not asked for police assistance, but officers approached them and investigated the missing bags. Both parties later recovered their respective belongings with police help.

The airport police district conducts regular operations against luggage theft and other crimes, according to acting sergeant Pong Pak-shing of its task force.

Police advised travellers to stay alert, take proper care of their belongings and consider using location-tracking devices to reduce the risk of luggage being mistakenly collected or stolen. The report said luggage theft occasionally occurs at the airport, but did not provide details of any arrest or charge arising from the June incident.
