An ambulance responding to an emergency became temporarily stuck in a western district park on the evening of August 18, 2026, after paving suddenly subsided beneath it, leaving the vehicle unable to move.
One report said another ambulance was dispatched to the scene to attend to the emergency while the first vehicle remained trapped.
The reports differ over the location and time. Star Headline identified the site as Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park and said the incident happened at about 9pm, while i-CABLE News called it Sai Ying Pun Promenade Park and reported that it occurred at around 8pm.
Star Headline reported that the Fire Services Department ambulance was vehicle A182 and had been sent to help a girl who injured her leg in the park. i-CABLE News instead said the ambulance had been called to Eastern Street North for an accidental injury case. These details could not be reconciled from the supplied reports.
The accounts also differ on the ambulance’s movement. One said its rear wheel went over the paving as it entered the park, while the other said the paving gave way as the vehicle was reversing. Both reports said the rear section or wheel became trapped and the ambulance could not continue.
i-CABLE News reported that several paving slabs were damaged and that the ambulance sustained minor damage. Both reports said the vehicle was eventually removed from the scene with the help of a tow truck. The supplied reports gave no further information on the cause of the subsidence, repairs or any investigation.
