Applications opened on 16 October for all 13 Light Public Housing projects, with the Housing Bureau sending forms to eligible applicants in stages. The programme’s final two projects, due to be completed next year, are included.
Applications returned by 6 November will receive priority processing, but that is not the end of the application period. The Bureau says all projects will continue accepting applications after that date. People who applied earlier do not need to submit another form.
The Housing Bureau said it had received more than 44,900 applications by the end of September. It expects all approximately 30,000 Light Public Housing units to be completed by the end of March 2027.
The last two projects are being converted from school premises on Shun Lee Tsuen Road in Kwun Tong and Chuk Yuen Road in Wong Tai Sin. Together they will provide about 210 units and are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
Many units have become available as residents move from Light Public Housing into traditional public rental housing, allowing other families with urgent housing needs to apply for them, the Bureau said.
Residents may also apply for a one-off allowance through a trial scheme funded by the Community Care Fund. The amount ranges from HK$1,950 to HK$13,000 and is intended to help with moving and settling-in costs, including children changing schools and buying furniture or appliances.
