Police said on 2 October that a 36-year-old Australian man had been charged with possessing an imitation firearm and criminal damage after an apparent handgun caused alarm in Jordan.
The incident happened at about 10pm on 30 September, when the man was reported carrying what appeared to be a handgun in the Yau Ma Tei area. He later entered a bar on Temple Street to use its toilet, prompting reports from members of the public and the bar operator.
Specialist police officers attended and arrested him. The object was later identified as a plastic toy gun containing no ammunition. It had reportedly been bought at a Temple Street toy shop as a gift for his son.
After being taken to Yau Ma Tei Police Station, the man was accused of damaging a wall and a smoke detector while emotionally agitated. Police called an ambulance and took him to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment.
The case is scheduled to be heard at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 3 October. The two charges remain allegations.
