Visitors entering the Po Pin Chau section of the High Island Reservoir East Dam’s Hong Kong Geopark trail between 9am and 5pm on specified dates will need to book during a trial running from September 5 to October 7, 2026. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said the trial will cover selected weekends, the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day holiday period.
The requirement applies only to the Po Pin Chau section and not to other areas of East Dam. Visitors will not need a booking on other dates or outside the 9am-to-5pm period.
Entry will be divided into two-hour time slots, with 500 places available in each slot and a daily limit of 2,000 visitors. Reservations are free and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The designated dates are September 5-6, September 12-13, September 19-20, September 25-27 and October 1-7. These cover selected weekends, the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day holiday period.
Visitors must book through the department’s designated Klook website, mobile app or WeChat mini-programme. Each person may reserve up to five places for themselves and companions. Bookings use real-name registration, and visitors must show an electronic confirmation and identification when entering, including a passport, Two-way Permit, Mainland identity card or Hong Kong identity card.
The system will begin accepting bookings for September 5 and 6 at 11am on August 24. Visitors may cancel up to 48 hours before their booked session. People without reservations may book online on site if places remain available.
The department said the trial will not include penalties. Officials said they would consider measures, including penalties or other costs, if problems such as reservation reselling or no-shows are found after the trial. The department will monitor visitor flows and use the trial to assess the site’s carrying capacity before reviewing the arrangement.
