A 13-year-old boy escaped a fire in a flat at Tsui To House, Tsui Ping (North) Estate, Kwun Tong, at around 8pm on October 7. He climbed through a window and took refuge on an exterior air-conditioner unit as smoke poured from the flat.
Firefighters brought him back to safety. He was conscious when taken to hospital, and about 70 people self-evacuated from the estate. The fire was put out in about half an hour.
Fire-service investigators suspected a charger inside the flat had caused the fire, HK01 reported.
Ming Pao reported that police arrested and detained the boy’s 42-year-old mother, suspecting she had left him home alone and had ill-treated or neglected a child or young person in her care.
