Cathay Pacific has announced plans to launch direct passenger flights from Hong Kong to Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the first service scheduled for January 9, 2027. The route is planned to operate three times a week and will mark the airline’s first destination in Central Asia.
RTHK reported that the service would be the only direct passenger link between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan. The reports do not specify the operating days, flight times, fares or when tickets will go on sale.
The route is planned to use Airbus A330-300 wide-body aircraft, according to one report. The available information does not confirm whether that aircraft type will operate every scheduled service.
Cathay said the route would support Hong Kong’s connectivity with Belt and Road countries and strengthen the city’s position as an international aviation hub. The airline described Almaty as Kazakhstan’s commercial and cultural capital and an important gateway to Central Asia for trade, business and tourism opportunities.
Plans for the route were discussed earlier in 2026 during Chief Executive John Lee’s visit to Central Asia, before Cathay formally announced the service on August 20, 2026. The first flight remains scheduled for January 9, 2027, while further operating and ticket information has not been supplied in the reports.
