Central Kowloon Bypass section to open on December 6; HK$8 toll begins when route is complete

The Kowloon Bay section of the Central Kowloon Bypass is scheduled to open on December 6, completing the road link between the Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel and the existing Yau Ma Tei section.

Once the full route is open, all vehicles will pay an all-day toll of HK$8. The Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel, the Kowloon Bay section and the Yau Ma Tei section will form Route 6, which is 12.5 kilometres long.

The government estimates that the peak-period journey between Tseung Kwan O town centre and Yau Ma Tei will take about 12 minutes, compared with about 65 minutes before the route was built — a projected saving of roughly 53 minutes.

The Yau Ma Tei section opened in December last year.

Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, said the government had been testing the section in recent months, including its fire-safety systems. She said it was in the final stages of preparation, with officials aiming to have the systems, public transport and roads ready before December 6.
