A fire broke out at Man Yee Arcade, 68 Des Voeux Road Central, at about 6pm on October 2. A tenant reported the blaze. Firefighters attended and extinguished it, with the flames affecting scaffolding used for interior renovation work.
About 10 to 20 people evacuated. A 33-year-old male security guard injured his hand while trying to put out the fire and was taken to Queen Mary Hospital while conscious.
Police said an initial investigation indicated that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. They said there was no evidence at that stage that the incident involved criminal elements.
