The Hong Kong Observatory puts the chance of Super Typhoon Champi passing near Hong Kong, Macau or coastal Guangdong cities over the next nine days at about 20% to 30%.

Champi is expected to cross waters east of Luzon over the next two to three days. After that, it could head west towards China’s southeast coast or turn north towards the Ryukyu Islands and East China Sea, the Observatory said.

Subsiding air around the storm is expected to bring hot weather to southern China later in the week. The Observatory advises people to take heat precautions and drink more water.

If the Observatory’s Tsim Sha Tsui headquarters records at least 33°C on October 21, it would set a record for the latest hot-weather day of the year, surpassing the existing record of October 19, 2024.
