Chan Chi-hang represents Yat Yuen Media Production Limited, the company that operates Channel C. The charges concern alleged non-payment of wages owed to three employees for work between January and March 2025.
Four of the charges allege that wages were not paid by their due dates. The fifth alleges that wages were not paid by the due date when an employment contract ended.
Chan previously pleaded not guilty to all five charges and is representing himself in the proceedings. The case was heard again at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on August 20.
The prosecution told the court it received a letter from Chan on August 19 proposing discussions with the prosecution. It applied for an adjournment while the Department of Justice considered the matter, and the court put the case over to September 10 for a pre-trial review.
Chan said he had tried to find a lawyer and had sought assistance from government departments and district councillors, but had been unable to obtain help. He said he searched for information online and prepared documents himself. Chan also suggested that his difficulty obtaining legal assistance might be connected to Channel C’s background; this claim was not independently established in the reports.
