Chess instructor Chan Koon-kwong, 38, has admitted three unlawful-intercourse offences involving a girl who was 12 at the time of some of the alleged acts. The charges concerned five alleged acts, and Chan has been remanded in custody pending sentencing.
Chan admitted one count involving a girl under 13 and two counts involving a girl under 16. The charges covered a date in December 2024 to 6 April 2025 and alleged acts in a flat in Lung Tsai village on Cheung Chau and a hotel room in Tsim Sha Tsui. Two further similar charges were left on file.
The pair met through friends at a cosplay event in 2024 and later became a couple. The girl initially told Chan that she was 15, but later disclosed that she was 12.
The agreed facts stated that Chan had intercourse with the girl at his Cheung Chau home in December 2024, using a condom. In January 2025, he attended a family gathering held to celebrate her 13th birthday and wrote her a letter wishing her a happy birthday. In March, when she was 13, the pair had intercourse in a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel room, also using a condom; the girl took an emergency contraceptive pill.
The girl’s mother learned about the sexual activity about two months after the birthday gathering and questioned Chan. He admitted having intercourse with the girl and acknowledged that the conduct was unlawful, according to the agreed facts. He was arrested about a month later.
Acting judge Wai Hon-kai adjourned the case to 2 October 2026 for sentencing, pending psychological and trauma reports. Chan remains in custody while awaiting sentence.
