A 24-year-old cleaner has been granted bail after appearing in court on two alleged criminal-intimidation charges involving a Mong Kok board-game shop and Sing Tao News Corporation Limited.
The first charge alleges that he threatened a man at GameTable on 13 September, saying he would damage the man’s reputation with the intention of frightening him. The second alleges that, on 28 September, he threatened damage to Sing Tao News Corporation Limited’s property at its Tseung Kwan O building to pressure the company into publishing an account of his personal dispute with the shop.
Star Headline reported that the cleaner was suspected of sending the media group a letter containing an unknown powder in connection with the alleged demand for publication.
At the first hearing at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 2 October, the defendant was not required to plead. He was granted bail, reportedly set at HK$20,000 in cash with a HK$10,000 personal surety, and the case was adjourned to 27 November while investigations continue.
