The Eastern Magistrates’ Court has ordered the prosecution to disclose some documents in the case against barrister Suet Sun-yan, following a further hearing on 7 September 2026. The documents concern a complainant’s account of reporting the allegations to police and later restating the case.
Suet, 32, is accused of three counts of indecent assault and two counts of common assault involving complainants identified in court as X and Y. The prosecution alleges that Y was indecently assaulted and attacked in a residential flat in Sai Ying Pun on 11 March 2014, and attacked again at the same flat on a day in October that year. It also alleges that X was indecently assaulted twice there on 30 August 2017. The allegations have not been tested at trial.
The defence intends to deny the charges and dispute the statements given by both complainants. Ming Pao also reported that the prosecution planned to call the two complainants and two police officers, as well as a recent complainant linked to X.
Chief Magistrate Cheung Chi-wai rejected the defence request for the outcome of the complaints and the statement of the police officer who had been complained against. The defence also raised a possible recusal issue involving two magistrates who had been assigned to hear appeals involving Suet. The court directed the defence to submit supporting material before the pre-trial review so it can decide whether the magistrates should recuse themselves.
The case is due to return to court for a pre-trial review and formal plea on 16 November 2026. Reports differ on the subsequent schedule: Ming Pao reported three hearing days on 17, 18 and 30 December, while Star Headline said 17 December was a provisional start date and that the timetable would be confirmed later.
