The Customs and Excise Department said it seized about 360,000 suspected illicit cigarettes from an inbound truck declared to be carrying vegetables at Man Kam To Control Point on September 30.

Officers stopped the vehicle following a risk assessment and found the cigarettes mixed with vegetables in 63 foam boxes. Customs estimated their market value at about HK$1.88 million and their duty value at about HK$1.18 million.

A 62-year-old local driver was arrested and the truck was detained for investigation. The investigation was continuing and the driver had been released on bail, Customs said.
