The Customs and Excise Department began intensified inspections at shopping hotspots across Hong Kong on 29 September, ahead of the seven-day mainland National Day holiday starting on 1 October.
The operation includes tourist shopping areas in Yau Tsim Mong, Hung Hom, To Kwa Wan and Causeway Bay. Officers are giving compliance reminders to retailers and tourism workers at pharmacies, ginseng and dried-seafood shops, beauty businesses and jewellery shops, while distributing advice at land ports.
The department advises shoppers to use reputable shops, compare product specifications and prices, and confirm the total price and charging unit before paying. Keep receipts and related records, and consult the relevant trademark owner or its agent if there are doubts about whether goods are genuine.
A rapid-response team will handle urgent complaints from short-stay visitors and refer cases immediately to investigators for priority handling.
