A 52-year-old Indonesian domestic worker has been charged with murdering the 93-year-old woman she cared for in Kai Tak. A later report by Ming Pao says the defendant was remanded in custody.

Ming Pao reported that the woman needed help with daily care and that the domestic worker had cared for her for more than three years. The woman lived at Tak Long Estate, where relatives later reviewed CCTV footage from the flat and found evidence of an attack. Police also seized footage.

Police allege the footage showed the helper striking the woman about 20 times on her head, neck and face, and stomping on her abdomen. HK01 reported that the episode lasted about seven minutes.

Police also allege that the helper assaulted the woman intermittently each day during the preceding half-month. Ming Pao reported examples including rough handling while feeding her and slapping her.

The woman was found unresponsive at Tak Yiu House in Tak Long Estate on October 11, 2026, and taken to hospital, where she later died. RTHK reported that the helper went to the building’s security guard for help. Police arrested her at the flat in the early hours of October 12.

Ming Pao reported that the defendant was not required to plead at her court appearance. The case was adjourned to January 6, 2027, for further investigation.
