A private car driver reportedly drove away from a police stop in the Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok area at about 4pm on 7 September, triggering a pursuit along Nathan Road and a series of reported collisions. Police later found the vehicle on Yan Yue Street in Hung Hom at about 5pm.
Reports said officers had stopped the car near Nathan Road and Hamilton Street over suspected illegal loading or unloading of passengers, or parking in a restricted area. The driver allegedly accelerated away during the stop and headed towards Tsim Sha Tsui, while officers reportedly struck the car body or windows with batons.
The car was reported to have collided with other vehicles around Nathan Road, Man Ming Lane and Gascoigne Road. Ming Pao and i-CABLE News reported that three vehicles were hit, while Star Headline said at least four vehicles were involved.
At least one police officer was injured during or after the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. The reports differed on how the injury happened: Ming Pao said an officer was cut by broken glass while smashing a window, while Star Headline reported that a male officer was hit by the car and injured his arm. i-CABLE News did not specify the cause.
The occupants of the vehicle when it was found were also unclear. Ming Pao reported that a male driver and male passenger were inside, while Star Headline and i-CABLE News said no driver was found and that he had fled. The reports did not establish whether anyone had been arrested.
