One Bus Hong Kong Macau Limited plans to put its first electric tourist coach into service on 26 September, carrying passengers between Hong Kong and Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
The operator says the coach can travel more than 700 kilometres on a full charge. Based on a round trip of about 160 kilometres, it estimates the vehicle will need charging roughly once every three days.
The operator’s director says the coach’s energy costs per kilometre are half those of a diesel bus. He also says Hong Kong has almost no suitable charging points for tourist buses in urban areas, limiting the scope for wider use of electric coaches.
