A fire broke out at a residential flat in Bird Building on Ming Fung Street, Wong Tai Sin, at about 4pm on September 3, 2026. The blaze was intense and produced large amounts of smoke.

Burning debris or flames fell on to a platform below and affected items stored there. About 20 residents evacuated the building by themselves as the fire was being dealt with.

Firefighters arrived, deployed a water jet and quickly extinguished the blaze. They also raised a ladder to check whether anyone needed assistance. No injuries were reported.

Reports differed on the extent of damage to the flat. One described it as heavily blackened, while another said the entire flat was destroyed. That report also said nobody was inside when the fire started.

Initial reports suggested the fire may have involved an electrical short circuit, with two reports specifically pointing to a possible short circuit in a charging cable. The cause has not been confirmed.

One report said police cordoned off a traffic lane and that there was initially no evidence suggesting criminal involvement. The exact address, cause of the fire and extent of the damage remained unresolved in the reports.
