A fire broke out on a moored refuse collection vessel at Shau Kei Wan typhoon shelter in the early hours of August 16, about 100 metres from the Shau Kei Wan Fish Wholesale Market, according to a Star Headline report.

Nearby boat operators saw the vessel emitting white smoke and catching fire before reporting the incident at about 1.56am.

Fire services sent a fireboat to approach the vessel and fight the blaze. At about 2.28am, firefighters deployed one fire hose and a breathing apparatus team as part of the rescue operation.

Star Headline reported that no one was injured. The report did not state the cause of the fire, the extent of damage to the vessel, or whether or when the blaze was fully extinguished.
