The Hong Kong Fire Services Department found 28 fire-hazard violations while inspecting eight higher-risk buildings in a two-day operation on September 29 and 30. The problems included blocked escape routes and smoke doors wedged open.
The department deployed 86 personnel. It said three prosecutions had been initiated over cases involving blocked escape routes and wedged-open smoke doors, while nine fire-hazard abatement notices were issued.
The operation followed four rounds of proactive inspections of higher-risk buildings since December last year, including follow-up visits. The department said most of the buildings inspected had shown significant improvement in fire safety.
The department said it would continue closely following up on the fire-safety cases identified during the inspections.
