Five Hong Kong universities placed in the global top 100 of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, released on 30 September. The University of Hong Kong remained the city’s highest-ranked institution, holding 33rd place.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong followed at 42nd, down one place from the previous ranking. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology stayed at 58th, while City University of Hong Kong ranked 70th and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University came 79th.
City University of Hong Kong made the biggest upward move, rising three places to 70th. RTHK said it was the university’s highest-ever position. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University advanced one place.
The survey said three Asian universities entered the global top 15 for the first time, with Tsinghua University rising one place to 11th. It counted 21 Asian universities in the top 100 and 40 in the top 200.
The ranking covered 2,297 institutions worldwide and assessed five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry. These areas were measured through 17 performance indicators.
