Five people were lightly injured in a collision involving multiple vehicles in the Eastern Harbour Tunnel early on October 3, while one tube was carrying traffic in both directions.

Those injured were a taxi driver, three taxi passengers and the driver of a goods vehicle. Four were taken to hospital by ambulance, while the remaining injured person left the scene independently.

Police received a report at 2.19am about the crash in the tunnel’s Hong Kong Island-bound tube. Rescue personnel found the vehicles stopped in a traffic lane. A taxi’s front was severely damaged, with debris scattered across the road, and the goods vehicle was also damaged.

Police were investigating the cause and had not ruled out a vehicle crossing the centre line, HK01 reported.
