A former Chong Hing Bank customer service manager was sentenced to 120 hours of community service by Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on 4 September 2026 after being convicted of disclosing the identity and related information of a person under investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).
The 43-year-old woman had told her father, Liu Tso-pui, that he was being investigated by the ICAC. Reports said she learned about the investigation through her work.
The charge alleged that, on an unknown date between 5 February and 23 July 2025, she disclosed the information without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, knowing or suspecting that someone was being investigated for an offence under Part II of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
She had earlier been found guilty of disclosing the identity and related information of a person under investigation. Star Headline reported that she had denied the charge and stood trial.
The defence said the community service report was positive, while the probation officer recommended between 81 and 160 hours of community service.
Magistrate Tsang Chung-yiu described the offence as technical in nature but said a community service order was appropriate. He also said the sentence represented a considerable cost to the defendant.
The 120-hour order has now been imposed. Reports said the defendant’s husband attended court to support her; Ming Pao also reported that her husband and parents-in-law were present to observe the proceedings.
