Former lawmaker Wong Kam-leung charged with four offences after alleged CUHK collision

Police have charged former Legislative Council Election Committee constituency lawmaker Wong Kam-leung with four offences over an alleged incident at the Chinese University of Hong Kong: drink-driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop after a traffic accident and failing to report it. The case is scheduled to be heard at Sha Tin Magistrates’ Court on the morning of 9 September 2026. The charges are allegations and have not been adjudicated.

The incident allegedly took place on 29 June 2026 on the university campus, where a private car hit two parked private cars before leaving the scene. The driver later returned. i-CABLE reported that Wong failed an alcohol breath test when he returned.

Wong is a former Election Committee constituency lawmaker. i-CABLE reported that he had resigned from the position.

i-CABLE also reported that Wong was serving as deputy dean of CUHK’s Faculty of Engineering at the time of the incident and that the university suspended him afterwards.
