Police arrested four people aged between 69 and 75 after they allegedly fought over seats on a Yuen Long-bound Light Rail Route 751 train on the morning of August 28, 2026. The four people were two older couples, and all were taken to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.
Ming Pao reported that police were alerted by Light Rail staff at about 11am, after the passengers allegedly argued over seating and assaulted one another while the train was travelling towards Yuen Long. Police later arrested the four at the hospital on suspicion of fighting in a public place.
Reports, including descriptions of an online video, referred to alleged choking, hitting, hair-pulling and the use of a walking stick during the incident. The footage and accounts did not establish which person was responsible for any particular action.
A 71-year-old man reportedly suffered injuries to his leg and hand, while his 69-year-old wife reported pain in her hands and neck. Another 75-year-old man had a hand injury, and his 69-year-old wife reported pain in her chest and abdomen. All four were conscious when they were taken to hospital.
The reports differed over the train’s exact location and the driver’s response. One account said the incident took place between Siu Hong and Lam Tei and that the driver immediately reported it, while another said the driver arranged for passengers to change trains and called police when the train reached Lam Tei. The accounts also differed over where the couples had boarded.
The case has been referred to the second team of the Tuen Mun district criminal investigation section, according to Ming Pao. The supplied reports did not confirm whether charges had been laid, or establish the precise cause of the dispute and the actions of each person.
