Police said staff at Princess Margaret Hospital reported finding suspected dangerous drugs in the possession of two female patients staying at the hospital. An investigation by the Sham Shui Po district police special duties team allegedly found that drugs had been brought to a hospital ward.
Police arrested four people between 29 August and 3 September: two local men aged 21 and 22, and two local women aged 42 and 63. The men are suspected of trafficking dangerous drugs, while the women are suspected of possessing them. The 22-year-old man is also suspected of failing to produce identity documents.
Officers seized about 30 grams of suspected ketamine, 53 suspected heroin tablets and a small amount of suspected cocaine. Police put the estimated total street value at about HK$20,000.
The two men remain detained for investigation and are expected to be provisionally charged with trafficking dangerous drugs. Their case is scheduled to be heard at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on 5 September. The two women have been released on bail and must report to police in early October.
Police condemned the alleged delivery of drugs to a hospital ward, saying such conduct could endanger patients and disrupt hospital operations. The allegations have not been tested in court, and the substances have only been described as suspected drugs.
