The Centre for Food Safety has ordered the withdrawal of a 200-gram pack of prepackaged frozen peeled white shrimp after testing found a trace metabolite of the banned veterinary drug furazolidone.

The sample was collected from a fresh-food shop in North Point through the centre’s routine food-monitoring programme. Testing found 6.1 parts per billion of nitrofuran-class metabolites in the shrimp, the centre said.

The affected product came from China and has a best-before date of 22 January 2028. It was distributed by LINSON GLOBAL SEAFOOD TRADING LIMITED.

The shop was ordered to stop selling and remove the affected batch. LINSON GLOBAL SEAFOOD TRADING LIMITED has recalled it in accordance with the centre’s instructions.

Consumers should stop eating the affected batch, while food businesses holding it should stop using or selling it. The Centre for Food Safety said it would continue following up the case and investigating.
