More than 10 households at Wang Fuk Court were allowed to return to their flats to collect belongings between June and August, the Government said, after a moving company posted that it had carried out work on the estate’s 31st floor on 27 August. The disclosure has raised questions about how residents can seek further access.
The Government said residents with individual or special needs can make requests through channels including its explanation teams and the “one social worker per household” arrangement. Each request is considered according to the overall condition of the building, the safety of residents and workers, available manpower and other practical arrangements.
It said the broad aim was to make arrangements, where possible, to coincide with residents moving into new homes, giving them an opportunity to retrieve necessary possessions. Residents had already been allowed to return in two rounds in April and May.
The moving company, “貨Van仔”, said in a Facebook post on 27 August that it was moving belongings for a Wang Fuk Court resident on the 31st floor and described the work as a challenging job. The company later said it would not accept interviews, and both posts were deleted that evening.
After seeing the company’s posts, one resident said they had not known residents could go upstairs again, and that their social worker was also unaware that an application could be made. The account indicates a possible gap in how the arrangements were communicated, but does not establish that access was unavailable to other residents.
The Government had announced on 17 and 19 July that residents with special needs could request access to retrieve belongings. It has confirmed that more than 10 households were accommodated between June and August, but has not publicly clarified whether the 31st-floor move on 27 August was among those cases, or disclosed the exact number, dates and reasons for each arrangement.
In response on 27 August, the Government said requests would continue to be handled individually, humanely and flexibly. The detailed application channels, notification arrangements and the status of the 31st-floor move remain unclear.
