A man aged about 70 was airlifted to Eastern Hospital after collapsing and suffering injuries while hiking on Yuk Kwai Shan, Ap Lei Chau, on the morning of 6 September 2026. He was taken there by a Government Flying Service helicopter for emergency treatment.
Police received a report at 9.13am. Ming Pao reported that the man had been hiking alone, while Star Headline said other hikers made the report.
The man suffered a head injury. Star Headline also reported that he had bleeding abrasions on his legs. Firefighters and other rescuers attended before calling the Government Flying Service to evacuate him from the hillside.
He was unconscious when he arrived at hospital and received emergency treatment, including chest compressions or cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Star Headline reported that the man later died after being taken to hospital, adding that the cause of death would be determined by a post-mortem examination. Ming Pao reported his transfer to Eastern Hospital for resuscitation but did not confirm that he had died.
The reports also differ on his identity. Star Headline described him as a 72-year-old man surnamed Kwok, while Ming Pao said he was about 70 and did not give his surname. The cause of his collapse was not reported, and Ming Pao said police were investigating the incident.
