Hong Kong Investment Corporation has invested in more than 200 enterprises, including 11 already listed in Hong Kong, chief executive Clara Chan said. More than 30 of the backed companies have submitted or plan to submit listing applications in the city this year, she said.

Chan said HKIC could, on average, mobilise more than eight dollars of long-term market investment for every dollar it invested in a company. She described the corporation as having moved beyond the role of a pure investor by identifying promising enterprises, leading investment rounds and attracting other investors.

Its investments cover sectors including artificial intelligence, green energy and life sciences, Chan said. She added that HKIC aimed to support companies whose products or services benefited people as well as generating financial returns.

As an example, Chan cited a company developed by a university team. She said an international medical institution had invested more than HK$5 billion in the company, helping it pursue market opportunities.
