An elderly resident was taken to hospital after a power cut in Ho Man Tin left the oxygen machine he normally uses to help him breathe without power. The outage affected about 1,000 CLP customers, according to the utility.
The resident lived in Chi Ling Building. The disruption affected buildings around Waterloo Road and Ho Man Tin Street, including Metropark Hotel Kowloon at 75 Waterloo Road.
CLP said a fault in its power equipment near Waterloo Road, in Kowloon City district, occurred at about 11.18pm on September 30. Police said they received three related reports between 11.36pm and 11.50pm and that nobody was injured. Fire services received at least two reports of people trapped in lifts.
At Metropark Hotel Kowloon, backup electricity supplied one lift and the ground-floor lobby, but did not extend to guest-room air conditioning. Some residents went downstairs because of the heat, while others temporarily moved to hotels.
CLP said repair crews were working to restore power and that it had deployed several mobile generators, batteries and emergency lighting. Its community support teams and customer managers were helping affected buildings and institutions, in coordination with district services, councillors and property-management companies.
