Nominations for the 2026 Election Committee subsector elections closed on October 20, with the Electoral Affairs Commission reporting 1,155 nomination forms. Designated bodies submitted 40; the remainder came from individual candidates.
Competition spans most of the 36 subsectors whose members are elected: 31 have more candidates than seats. Social Welfare has 25 candidates for 15 seats, while Medical and Health Services has 23 for 15. The Election Committee nominates and elects Hong Kong’s chief executive.
In the other five subsectors, the number of candidates matches the number of seats. They will be returned without a poll if their eligibility is confirmed and no one withdraws.
Returning Officers are scheduled to draw lots on October 29 to set candidates’ order on ballot papers. Polls in contested subsectors are scheduled for November 22.
