The 2027 Hong Kong Marathon will be held on 17 January with a record 78,000 places across its main events, organisers announced. The half-marathon allocation will rise by 4,000 to 29,000 places.
Public ballot registration will open at 2pm on 11 September 2026. Organisers said the previous edition attracted about 120,000 applicants, while reports said the half-marathon received the strongest response and prompted the increase in places.
A new 5km Waterfront Run will be held on 16 January, the day before the main races, with 3,000 places. It will start at Kai Tak Sports Park, follow the Kai Tak waterfront promenade and finish at a park in the Kai Tak district.
Ming Pao reported that wheelchair users would be allowed to enter the 5km race. The supplied reports did not provide further details on eligibility or the allocation of places for wheelchair participants in that event.
The Youth Dash for runners aged 10 to 15 will also expand, with places increasing from 2,500 to 3,000. The two-day programme is expected to attract 84,000 runners, although it is not clear whether that figure covers every race and newly added event.
The marathon and half-marathon will start on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and finish at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay. The 10km race will start on the Island Eastern Corridor, while the wheelchair race will start at Wan Chai Sports Ground; both will finish at Victoria Park.
The age categories for the marathon, half-marathon, 10km race and wheelchair race will remain unchanged, and places will continue to be provided for disabled participants.
The expanded Youth Dash and the new Waterfront Run will take place on 16 January 2027, followed by the main Hong Kong Marathon events on 17 January. Public ballot registration is due to begin at 2pm on 11 September 2026.
