Hong Kong police’s National Security Department arrested a 38-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman on 6 October. Both are suspected of an offence under section 24 of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, which concerns acts with seditious intention.

Reports say the man allegedly operated pages on different social-media platforms that carried posts said to incite hatred of Hong Kong’s constitutional order. He is also suspected of using the pages to sell insurance products for profit. The man is described as a licensed insurance intermediary.

The woman, described as his friend, is suspected of helping manage the social-media pages. Reports say she does not work in insurance and does not hold an insurance intermediary licence. Both were granted bail pending further investigation.
