Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court found 41-year-old police officer Wu Kai-wai not guilty on 28 August 2026 of indecently assaulting a woman at Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station while handling her report involving suspected fraud and nude-photo extortion. The court also approved the defence’s application for costs.
The charge concerned an alleged incident on 20 December 2025. The woman, identified in court as X, said Wu was examining messages on her phone and her bank statement when he opened a private image sent through a function designed for one-time viewing without her consent. She alleged that he touched her thigh three times.
Those details were part of the prosecution case and were not findings that the alleged conduct occurred. In a recorded cautioned interview, Wu said X had opened the image herself, moved to his left because she was unhappy, and that there had been no physical contact between them.
Magistrate Lam Hei-wai said X had given more than one version of several key events. These included when the image was opened, whether Wu had displayed or commented on it, how she approached him and whether his hand had touched her thigh.
The court rejected X’s evidence and acquitted Wu, meaning the charge was not proved. It also granted the defence’s application for costs.
