Hong Kong’s Privacy Commissioner’s Office arrested a 29-year-old Chinese man in Kowloon on August 27, 2026, over alleged unauthorised disclosures of another person’s personal data. He was granted bail, and the office said its investigation would continue.
The man is suspected of disclosing the person’s data without consent, allegedly violating section 64(3A) of Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, according to the office.
Reports say the man and the person took part in the same boxing competition in early 2025, after which he allegedly began targeting the person. Posts from personal accounts on two social-media platforms were allegedly published in March 2025 and again in August 2026.
The posts allegedly disclosed the person’s English name, Chinese alias, social-media account name, current employer’s social-media account name and photographs. They also allegedly contained negative comments.
The man was granted bail after the arrest. The Privacy Commissioner’s Office said it would continue investigating the alleged disclosures.
