Hong Kong released an independent committee’s report on the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, which killed 168 people. The fire broke out on November 26, 2025.

The government-appointed committee spent about nine months on its work and held 30 hearings. It submitted the report to Chief Executive John Lee the previous week.

At the briefing, Lee and other officials bowed. Lee apologised on behalf of the government to the fire’s victims and the public.

Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho tendered her resignation on October 28. Lee said he had accepted it, and that Ho’s duties ended on October 29. The Deputy Financial Secretary would handle the Housing Bureau portfolio concurrently.

Lee also announced plans to establish a building-maintenance support and services bureau and restructure the Buildings Department.
