Hong Kong primary and secondary schools will be organised to watch a live broadcast of an upcoming Hong Kong-Macao session of the Tiangong Class on campus, the Hong Kong government said. The event, titled the “Tiangong Class · Hong Kong and Macao Designated Session”, is expected to take place soon, but no specific date has been announced.
The three Shenzhou-23 crew members aboard the Tiangong Space Station are expected to conduct scientific demonstrations and take part in a live dialogue with students on Earth. Hong Kong payload specialist Lai Ka-ying is among the crew members.
The programme is expected to include an expert explanation or lecture, an in-orbit demonstration and a question-and-answer session with students. The reports do not specify which experiments will be shown or which students will ask questions.
Ming Pao reported that Macao’s Education and Youth Development Bureau will organise a student-and-teacher delegation to travel to Hong Kong to attend the event. The reports do not specify the Hong Kong venue or whether all participants will be present in person.
The session is being jointly organised by the Hong Kong SAR Government, the Macao SAR Government and the China Manned Space Agency. It is expected to be broadcast on the Information Services Department website, the news.gov.hk Facebook page and a related thematic website, with RTHK and other local television stations also expected to provide live coverage.
The government also plans further science-popularisation and publicity activities under the theme “A Shared Cosmic Vision for National Rejuvenation”. The activities are intended to promote understanding of China’s space technology development and encourage young people to pursue innovation and technology. The session’s exact date and time have not been announced.
