The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department began a four-month phase of special dog-control operations on October 8, prioritising places where dogs have attacked passers-by or stray dogs have gathered.
That afternoon, department staff and police carried out a joint operation around Nam Sang Wai Road and Luk Keng, capturing one unattended dog. It had no microchip and was taken to an animal management centre for observation.
The department will check lost-dog reports and says it will prosecute a keeper if evidence is found. If no keeper is found, centre staff and a vet will assess the dog. If it is confirmed healthy and docile, it will be transferred to an animal-welfare partner for sterilisation, and the partner will arrange for it to be offered for public adoption.
The department advises people who encounter an unattended dog in a public place to stay calm, keep their distance and call 1823. If the dog is aggressive or poses an immediate danger, call police.
