Hong Kong suspends imports of 1-litre Junlebao milk after four samples breach safety limit

Hong Kong’s Food Safety Centre has suspended imports of a batch of 1-litre Junlebao pure milk after four samples exceeded the legal limit for colony counts. The affected batch was secured at the importer’s warehouse and did not enter the local market.

The samples were collected and tested at the import level under the Centre’s routine food surveillance programme, according to the Centre.

The four samples recorded colony counts of 10 or more per sample, exceeding the standard set under the Milk Regulations (Cap. 132, subsidiary legislation AQ).

i-CABLE reported that other Junlebao products available in the market were not affected. The report did not indicate that those products were part of the affected batch.

The Food Safety Centre said it had suspended imports of the product and was following up on the case. No cause for the elevated counts or duration for the suspension was given in the supplied reports.
