The Hong Kong government will include mediation through the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) as an option in government contracts and agreements to which Hong Kong is a party, Chief Executive John Lee said.
IOMed marked its first anniversary at its Hong Kong headquarters. Secretary-General Teresa Cheng said a construction dispute in Malaysia had been settled there in one day. One party had brought the case after offering to mediate, despite no prior agreement to do so, she said.
Cheng said that during IOMed’s first year, the number of signatory countries had risen from 33 to 48, while contracting states had increased from 8 to 18.
