Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said at a meeting with Huang Runqiu, China’s environment minister, that Hong Kong would explore cross-border carbon trading to help China build a carbon market with greater international influence.
The meeting took place at Government House on October 26 and focused on deeper green cooperation. Lee said Hong Kong would seek a greater role in the Greater Bay Area’s green industrial chain and strengthen cooperation on resource circulation.
Lee also thanked the national government for supporting Hong Kong as the host of the 2026 Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference, its first edition outside mainland China.
