Hong Kong’s first APEC finance ministers’ meeting has concluded with two statements approved and published: the 2026 APEC Finance Ministers’ Joint Statement and a policy statement on financing digital infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific.
Speaking on a radio programme on 24 October, legislator Jonathan Stuart Lamport said foreign finance officials could experience Hong Kong’s safety and stability directly. He argued that this could counter rumours and strengthen confidence in the city as an international financial centre.
Legislator Chan Chun-ying said Hong Kong’s regulatory and market systems were closely aligned with international standards, giving the city scope to help extend its financial and digital rules across the region. He added that wider adoption of Hong Kong’s digital infrastructure model could eventually support greater use of the renminbi in cross-border transactions.
Legislator Alan Chan Chung-yee said hotels under his group recorded occupancy above 90% during the meeting, boosting related revenue.
