Receivers controlling Hui Ka Yan’s assets have brought two Hong Kong High Court claims seeking about HK$19.15 billion from property executive Cheung Chung Kiu and businessman Kai Johan Jiang.
The larger claim alleges that Hui and XIN XIN(BVI)LIMITED paid Cheung at least HK$18.65 billion between 2014 and 2020. It says the money was expected to be repaid, but that Cheung neither returned it nor provided other consideration.
The separate claim concerns an agreement dated 22 June 2020 under which Hui allegedly agreed to pay Jiang HK$500 million for business advice and related services. The claim says Jiang received the money but did not provide the agreed services, and seeks repayment and interest.
The claims were filed in Hui’s name by Edward Simon Middleton and Tiffany Wong, who are Hui’s asset receivers and the liquidators of China Evergrande Group. A High Court order made in September 2025 gave the receivers control of all Hui’s assets. Hui was sentenced to life imprisonment by a mainland court in August 2026.
Cheung is chairman of a listed property company. Jiang founded the Swedish electric-vehicle company NEVS and held senior positions connected with Evergrande’s electric-vehicle operations.
The High Court has yet to determine whether either defendant is liable or whether the requested money and interest will be recovered.
