Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee has urged the city’s media to report objectively and fairly while telling positive stories about Hong Kong and the nation. He made the appeal at a media-sector event on 29 September marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Lee called on media workers to uphold professional ethics when reporting facts. He said the press helped communicate public sentiment and guide public understanding, while describing its influence as a force for social progress.
He said the SAR government would continue helping local media strengthen their competitiveness and expand networks beyond Hong Kong, improving their ability to communicate with international audiences. Lee also said Hong Kong’s first five-year plan had set out a blueprint for economic and social development, with the city aligning with national development during the 15th five-year-plan period.
