A reporter saw at least 10 burrows on the slope below Tai Loong Street Rest Garden in Kwai Chung, and saw at least six or seven rats emerge within a minute.

On October 23, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department inspected the garden, slope and nearby facilities with the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Architectural Services Department. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said it had added traps and rodenticide bait boxes, and cleared places where rats could hide or move.

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said it had received three complaints about rat sightings on the slope in 2026 to date. At the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s request, it inspected the slope and gave technical advice after finding multiple burrows.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said it would arrange for a professional pest-control contractor to target the burrows, rat hiding places and food sources.
